Scenic Routes
The routes people take for the ride itself — river gorges, mountain passes and the long, quiet hours that only exist on a train.
Worth the window seat
Glenwood Canyon, Colorado
The Rocky Mountain Line follows the Colorado River through a canyon no road reaches. Two hours of red rock walls, best from the observation car.
The Hudson Line, New York
Ninety minutes of river on one side and the Palisades on the other. Sit on the left heading north for the water.
Marias Pass, Montana
The Northern Route crosses the Continental Divide along the southern edge of Glacier National Park, usually at sunrise.
