01Our commitment
AmericaTrak aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this website and our mobile apps. Accessibility is part of how we build and review features, not a pass we do at the end.
02What we have built in
- The whole booking flow — station search, date picker, passenger selection and checkout — works with a keyboard alone.
- Every form field has a persistent visible label, not just a placeholder.
- Station autocomplete is an ARIA combobox that announces results and the active option to screen readers.
- Body text meets a 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and large text meets 3:1, in every section including over photography.
- Focus is always visible, with a 2px outline that does not rely on colour alone.
- Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Status and error messages are announced, and errors are never signalled by colour alone.
- Animation is subtle and fully respects the prefers-reduced-motion setting.
- Informative images carry meaningful alternative text; purely decorative photography is hidden from assistive technology.
- Headings follow a logical order, and a skip link takes you straight to the main content.
03Known limitations
We would rather tell you than let you discover these on your own:
- Some route maps are image-based. A text itinerary is available beside each one, but the maps themselves are not yet navigable.
- A small number of older PDF confirmations are not fully tagged. Email us and we will send an accessible version the same day.
- Live seat-availability updates can announce more often than is comfortable on some screen readers. A quieter mode is in progress.
Each of these has an owner and a target date in our current roadmap.
04Booking assistance
If any part of the site gets in your way, we will complete the booking for you by phone at no extra charge — we waive theAmericaTrak service fee on assisted bookings made for this reason.
We can also record accessibility requirements on your reservation — wheelchair space, an accessible bedroom, assistance boarding and alighting, a service animal, or a companion fare — and pass them to the carrier. Tell us at least 48 hours before departure where you can, so the carrier has time to arrange it.
05Accessibility on the train
Station and onboard accessibility — platform access, lifts, accessible restrooms, boarding assistance and accessible seating — is provided by the carrier and the station operator, not byAmericaTrak. We will pass your requirements on and follow them up, but the arrangements themselves are theirs. Our Travel Info pages summarise what to expect.
06Tell us about a barrier
If you hit something that does not work, please tell us. Include the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using.
- Email support@americatrak.com with “Accessibility” in the subject line.
- Call +1 (800) 240-6993, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We acknowledge accessibility reports within 2 business days and aim to resolve or give you a workaround within 10. If you are not satisfied with our response, ask for it to be escalated to our accessibility lead.
07How we assess this
We combine automated testing in our build pipeline with manual keyboard and screen-reader testing using VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS, and we commission an independent audit annually. This statement reflects the most recent review and is updated whenever a significant change ships.
